Centre for Innovation in Learning & Ed - Transformation (CILET) organized a workshop on Case-Based Learning & Teaching for the faculty, under School of Business Studies, Institute of Business Administration.

May 31 2023 – The Centre for Innovation in Learning & Ed-Transformation (CILET), in under the School of Business Studies at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), organized an enlightening workshop focused on Case-Based Learning & Teaching for faculty members.

The workshop aimed to equip participants with valuable insights and practical strategies to effectively incorporate case-based methods into their teaching approaches. Faculty members from diverse disciplines under the School of Business Studies gathered to explore innovative techniques that would enhance student engagement and foster critical thinking skills.

Dr. Shafique, a renowned education expert, and keynote speaker, emphasized the role of educators in cultivating curiosity and promoting independent thinking among students. He stated, "My job is not to provide answers to students but to ignite curiosity within their minds, encouraging them to find answers themselves."

During the workshop, participants delved into the concept of "learning by heart," which involves a 70/30 rule: 70% learning through practical application, 20% through observation, and 10% through class discussions. Dr. Shafique introduced the three types of tension in learning: the tension between mind and body, between heart and body, and between heart and mind. He highlighted that true knowledge lies in recognizing what one doesn't know.

The discussion further touched upon the significance of interest and focus in achieving harmony and satisfaction among students. The workshop explored the distinctions between opportunity, opportunistic behavior, and opportunism, shedding light on the importance of acquiring multiple skills, attributes, and leadership qualities to succeed in the current era.

Dr. Shafique emphasized that the goal of a teacher is not to impart knowledge that students lack but to extract and build upon the knowledge they already possess. He underscored the effectiveness of open-ended questions that prompt students to explore the intricacies of case studies and develop a deeper understanding.

Additionally, the workshop explored the learning curve, allowing participants to analyze the progression of knowledge and skills acquired throughout the learning process.

The Case-Based Learning & Teaching workshop concluded with an interactive session, enabling participants to share their insights and experiences, and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

It is primarily focused on people who:

  • Are unsure of the different types of cases they can write
  • May have a story to tell, but are not sure how to convert it into a case and a teaching note
  • Are not sure how to go about collecting data, or what data is actually needed
  • May just have a tentative topic and a business in mind.
  • Want to find the right dilemma for their case

The participants will spend the two days of this workshop on working on the actual case and teaching note they have in mind.
