The Center for Innovation in Learning & Ed-Transformation (CILET) at the School of Business Studies (SBS), IBA Karachi in collaboration with the Institute of Educational Development, The Aga Khan University (AKU), Pakistan, organized the first module of the Foundations of Higher Education Teaching and Learning – Post Graduation Certification Program, at the Main Campus.
AKU trainers thoughtfully designed these sessions to cater to the unique needs of SBS's faculty. Beyond enhancing pedagogical skills, the workshop fostered a collaborative and supportive environment among the faculty, eliminating unspoken competition and nurturing holistic learning.
During the training session, several key highlights stood out. Firstly, the faculty members engaged in micro-teaching sessions, presenting 10-minute lectures using newly acquired teaching skills. Peers offered constructive feedback, creating a ‘Borrow and Lend’ strategy where strengths and weaknesses were shared to enhance teaching methodologies. Secondly, participants were introduced to online platforms such as Menti.com, Padlet, and Jot Forms, enriching their teaching toolkit. They actively utilized these tools during sessions, encouraging technology integration in classrooms.
The training session also delved into innovative teaching models, like Flipped Classrooms and Universal Design for Learning, which were not only explored but practically demonstrated. Faculty members explored these models, eventually incorporating them into their micro-teaching sessions. The workshop encouraged open dialogue and a sense of camaraderie, faculty members shared their teaching journeys and personal stories, fostering an informal yet respectful atmosphere. This openness contributed to the workshop's success.
At the workshop, participants gained pedagogical insights, personal growth, and lasting professional relationships.
The upcoming second cohort of this workshop, scheduled for December 2023, promises further educational transformation. CILET eagerly anticipates welcoming the faculty for another enriching experience.
The training workshop concluded with a thank you note from Dr. Abdullah Z. Sheikh, Dean, SBS. He also presented mementos to the trainers from the IED-AKU, Pakistan.
