The primary objective of this workshop is to introduce the participants to qualitative research methodology. It aims to introduce participants to a variety of qualitative research approaches, their underlying premises, an understanding to effectively use these approaches in their own research and prepare them to evaluate research done by others.

After attending this workshop, participants were able to understand:

  • Various approaches to qualitative research
  • Ethical issues involved in qualitative research
  • Qualitative data collection and analysis techniques
  • Various choices that researchers have to make in qualitative research design and would be able to make appropriate choices in their own research design.

Researchers (students and faculty) from all HEIs in Pakistan.

1.Dr. Mohammad Ayaz, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, School of Business Studies (SBS)

Dr. Muhammad Ayaz is an Assistant Professor of Management at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, Pakistan. His research interests are in exploring various facets of value creation and appropriation in global value chains. These include work organization in global value chains, the role of labor and multilateral organizations in (re)shaping global value chains, and corporate social responsibility in global value chains. He is an accomplished qualitative researcher. His work is published in top ranked journals such as Human Relations, Work, Employment, and Society, and Journal of Business Research.

2.Dr. Ashar Saleem, Assistant Professor & Program Director, Department of Management, School of Business Studies (SBS)

Dr. Ashar Saleem is an Assistant Professor of Management at IBA, Karachi. His specialization area is Strategy and Organization. His research areas of interest are Organization Theory, Critical Perspectives in Management, Public Sector Organizations, Public Private Partnerships, and Alternative Management His research work has been accepted and presented in leading conferences and international journals in the Business and Management discipline. Dr. Saleem has taught qualitative research methods and associated tools at various leading universities across Pakistan.

3.Dr. Shoaib Ul Haq, Assistant Professor & Visiting Faculty, Department of Management, School of Business Studies (SBS)

Dr. Shoaib Ul Haq is a faculty member at Newcastle University Business School, UK (a member of the prestigious Russell group). His research interests center on exploring impacts of digital technologies on global businesses, the bi-directional interaction between organizations and society, and the role of religion/spirituality in the workplace. His research has been published in top academic journals including Organization Studies, Organization, Long Range Planning, Third World Quarterly, Human Resource Development International, Higher Education, and Journal of Islamic Marketing. He teaches courses in the area of digital economy such as business analytics, digital strategy, digital business and innovation, and research methods using Python."
